Who We Are

Supporting Orphans & Underprivileged Children

Halima Selengiya Orphanage is a non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to providing shelter, education, and care for orphans and vulnerable children in Tanzania. Founded in honor of Halima Selengiya, a freedom fighter and member of the Tanganyika African National Union (TANU), the orphanage continues her legacy of compassion.

Since its official establishment in 2017, the center has provided a safe home for children in need, empowering them through education, vocational training, and life skills.

Our History

A Legacy of Compassion & Service

During a visit to Kilimanjaro, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, the founding father of Tanzania, stayed at Halima Selengiya’s residence. She opened her doors to orphaned children, setting the foundation for the orphanage.

Even after her passing, the community upheld her vision, and in 2017, under the leadership of Swalehe Zabura Mkilindi, the orphanage was officially established.
